I have never been one to hand out business cards or do any sort of hob knobbery, but if there is a time for contact info exchange I always just say “friend me on facebook.” All my info is there.
What I find strange is when people ON facebook ask for my contact info. To me it’s the same as being too lazy to do a google search. I mean, my work history and every important project, and all my social media links are right there for the peeping for those who have interest. The amount of time it takes to send it, they could have easily looked it up themselves.
There are also those who prefer to exchange numbers on the spot. It’s always interesting to see how people prefer to do it. If I take their number I always text them my contact info from facebook or my iphone contact. If they take MY number they seem to always choose to call me so I have their number. What they don’t realize is I will never remember to add that missed call to my contact info later. I don’t call people unless I have to or you’re my Uncle Jack who has a flip phone and won’t text.
I always always do my best to treat people the way I prefer to be treated. I will look for your contact info online before I will ever ask you for it. I hope more people will start doing the same.
Next time, the question: “Where do you work these days” (pro tip: check the about section on facebook if you are interested)
